Are we addicted to our phones?

Writer's picture: Lysiane NoirotLysiane Noirot

We can say that they have become an extension of ourselves capable of responding to our slightest desires.

So, can we talk about a real drug that gives us a constant dose of distraction and instant gratification? Are we addicted to our phones?

We are always afraid of missing something, afraid of being disconnected.

We are like prisoners of our incessant need for virtual validation.

And that creates a mess in our heads!

Yes, because in reality each notification triggers a release of dopamine and activates the reward circuit in our brain. It is the chemical associated with addictions.

And the algorithms have understood that well.

Everything is calculated to make us more addicted every day!

But anxiety, depression and the feeling of loneliness in particular are often neglected consequences of this consumption of screens.

We don't talk about it much.

So, I think we should realize how powerful our phones are as tools that can distract our attention from what really matters in our lives.

I think it's time to rediscover a little about human relationships, present moments and the nature that surrounds us.

So today I would like to remind you to share offline moments with the people you love. Or at least try.
